Deutsche Bank Championship Preview

The Deutsche Bank Championship is an annual fishing games golf championship played annually during Labor Day Long Weekend. With the rough weather and damage thanks to Hurricane Irene last weekend, more golfers have committed to the tournament then in years past. For a second consecutive year, the Deutsche Bank Championship will see sports betting golfing great Tiger Woods skip the event. Nevertheless, here is the latest preview for the 2011 tournament.

This year’s DBC will have an eight million dollar purse, with the winning golfer receiving one point four million. Last year’s winner of the DBC, Charlie Hoffman will return to defend his crown against a brand new field of 14 other golfers. The 2011 cast of potential DBC winners, includes world number two golfer Luke Donald as well as 2010 runner up Vijay Singh.

Speaking of Donald, he along with Steve Stricker, enters the 2011 Deutsche Bank Championship with the greatest odds at winning the tournament. Both golfers are a +1200, and Donald will be looking to move up after finishing third at least year’s tournament. On the other hand, Steve Stricker, will also be looking to improve on last year’s results, as the smooth handed golfer finished an underwhelming 13th amongst 15 players. This season, Stricker has finished 13th or better on five separate occasions.

The sleeper pick for this year’s DBC will be last year’s runner up, Vijay Singh. Singh has odds of +3000, which tells us that the bookmakers feel Singh is due for a let down tournament. This season, Singh has proven that he still has his swagger, as he has finished in the top five in back to back tournaments. Furthermore, Singh is the only two-time winner at the DBC in this season’s tournament, as he won the event in both 2004 and 2008.

Greatest Comebacks In Golf History

This past weekend, sports betting fans were able to watch Keegan Bradley come out of seemingly nowhere to win the 93rd PGA Championship in Georgia. Bradley continues the trend of golfers not named Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson to win a PGA Grand Slam event this season. Bradley’s win got our MLB betting minds thinking, about various other golfers who either came back to win a title or were down and made a big run to win a title. Here are a few of the best comebacks in recent history.

Since 1916, there has been only a handful of golfers to ever be down by more than five shots and come back to win the PGA Championship. Here is a look at a couple of those impressive wins.

1959 Bob Rosburg – In 1959, famed golf commentator Bob Rosburg, was a member of the PGA tour. At the time, Rosburg was considered by many to be a middle of the pack golfer whom could win one or two smaller tournaments a year. However, in 1959, Rosburg came out of nowhere to capture the PGA Championship. Rosburg was able to catch Jerry Barber and Doug Saunders who each held an eight shot lead over Rosburg heading into the final round of the tournament. Rosburg would end the tournament on a six shot run, which allowed for him to capture the title.

1978 John Mahaffey – Mahaffey entered the third round of the 1978 PGA Championship, back of the leader Tom Watson by seven shots. By the 72nd hole, Mahaffey was able to catch Watson and another golfer named Jerry Pate. With only a few shots left, Mahaffey would pull ahead for good on the 74th hole, making an impressive 12 foot shot to seal the deal.

Tiger Woods Returns Leaving Fans To Forget About Rest Of Field

Sports betting golf fans in dire need of someone to cheer don’t need to look any farther, as Tiger Woods will be making his triumphant return at the Bridgestone Classic later this week. Woods, who over the last year has come under the microscope for a controversial private life, has also missed time due to knee injuries. However, at the Bridgestone Classic, Woods will return to the NFL betting lines as he hopes to finally win a tournament. Here is what Woods return means for the rest of the golf world.

Despite three of the past four golf tournament winners working with the same agent, golf has missed Tiger Woods perhaps more than he has missed golf. Woods is considered by many fans and experts alike to be the best golfer to have ever played the sport. As a result, when Woods took time off due to injury and personal matters, it appeared that golf had lost a lot of momentum. Making matters worse, at the British Open, both the new world number one and two players failed to make the cut after the first round. This in itself signaled to fans, that Woods return was needed more than ever.

What’s more, the Bridgestone Classic is a perfect tournament for Tiger Woods to make his return for several reasons. Firstly, Woods has won the tournament seven consecutive times, which in turn has allowed him to become very comfortable with his surroundings. Secondly and perhaps more importantly, the Bridgestone is not a major Grand Slam tournament. For this reason alone, there won’t be very much pressure on Woods to perform at a top level. Rather, Woods can apply the new tricks he has learned from his Canadian golf instructor.

PGA Championship Preview

Sports betting golf handicappers are counting down the days to the next major tournament, the PGA Championship, after an incredible British Open this past weekend. Set for August 11 to August 14 at the Atlanta Athletic Club, the PGA Championship marks the end of major golf grand slam season. Over the last couple of years, MLB betting enthusiast watching golf, have been unable to watch one single player dominate the ranks. Going into this year’s PGA Championship, there are plenty of golfers for fans to wager upon. Here is a preview of the 93rd PGA Championship.

As sports fans, we relish in the fact that two players or teams absolutely can’t stand each other. In golf betting alone, there is an option set up so that fans can pick one player to finish ahead of another. However, ever since Tiger Woods ended his 2011 campaign at the Masters in April, the rivalries have suddenly died down. For example, this past weekend European golfer Darren Clarke won the British Open. Yet, when Clarke was asked who he thought would win the PGA Championship, rather than say himself, Clarke was quick to support fellow European star Lee Westwood.

This in turn poses the question, why is golf such a gentlemanly game rather than competitive like all other major sports? To put things into perspective, consider that the one man with a vested interest in seeing Clarke win again is a guy named Chubby Chandler. Chandler is the agent of the last three major tournament winners, Clarke, Rory McElroy and Charl Schwartzel. Nevertheless, his client Darren Clarke has anointed Lee Westwood, a player not even in Chandler’s clientele stable to win the PGA Championship.

In theory, if Westwood can capture the PGA Championship, it will be a huge rebound after a disappointing loss at the British Open. Westwood and world number two, Luke Donald, became the only top two ranked players to miss the cut at the British Open.

Players Who Could Make The PGA Relevant Again

Earlier this week, golf betting online enthusiasts were shocked to learn that Tiger Woods Achilles and knee injuries will continue to keep him out of action. Yesterday, Woods announced that he will be withdrawing from the British Open, due to the aforementioned injuries sustained at the Masters Tournament a few months ago. With Woods out of commission, many golf handicappers at the online casino are wondering which other stars to choose as the winner of the British Open. Here are a few players that can make the PGA relevant again.

Rory McIlroy – After winning the US Open last month in grand fashion, many fans and fellow golfers on the PGA tour alike, have already anointed the youthful McIlroy as Tiger Woods successor. At 22 years old, McIlroy has already accomplished a ton in his career, winning several tournaments to go along with the US Open. What’s more, McIlroy has already lost at the Masters Open in dramatic fashion, making the storylines around him all the more fascinating. Ranked third overall in the world, if McIlroy can win the British Open, he will see his popularity sky rocket.

Bubba Watson – For name sake alone, Bubba Watson is a guy that can attract monster audiences to the PGA tour. Watson has won two tournaments this season, while putting together several nice finishes. What’s more, he is known for his epic golf swing, which due to his strength allows him to hit the ball quite far every time he takes to the golf course. If anyone can bring golf back to prominence it is Bubba Watson.

Luke Donald – The world’s number one golfer is a consistent lock to be a top five finisher in every PGA tour. Strictly speaking from a golf standpoint, no golfer has gained as much as Luke Donald in the recent departure of Tiger Woods, as he has taken over the top ranking in the world. Donald now needs to show audiences that he can be as impressive as Tiger was before his injuries.
